Ripple’s XRP Surges 138% YTD as SEC Shifts Focus Post-Gensler

Ripple’s XRP token surged by 25% on Friday, breaking above $1.4 for the first time in three years. The cryptocurrency has skyrocketed 138% this year, far outpacing Ethereum’s performance and closing in on Bitcoin’s year-to-date gains, according to CoinGecko.

The price rally follows the announcement of SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s exit, scheduled for January 20. His departure has fueled speculation about a potential shift in the agency’s approach to crypto litigation, including the high-profile SEC vs. Ripple case.

Legal Developments and XRP’s Future

Industry experts anticipate a more favorable regulatory environment for digital assets post-Gensler. Consensys CEO Joe Lubin predicts ongoing SEC cases could be dismissed or settled under new leadership, while Pantera’s legal chief Katrina Paglia expects fewer actions against crypto companies.

This change could pave the way for a settlement between the SEC and Ripple, enabling Ripple to continue operations without the burden of protracted litigation. Although financial penalties may be part of a deal, analysts view this as a win for Ripple.

XRP’s Momentum Continues

XRP’s price has hovered between $0.5 and $0.6 since last year’s market recovery but recently broke past $1, fueled by speculation over Gensler’s resignation and rumored discussions between Trump and Ripple’s CEO.

Crypto analyst Ali Martinez forecasts further gains, noting XRP could soon test the $2 level. He called Gensler’s exit “the best thing that could happen to Ripple.”
